Fatigue characterization by heat source reconstruction under continuously varying stress amplitude

نویسندگان

چکیده

Self-heating measurements using thermography have proven to be an effective means of rapidly assessing the fatigue response materials. The paper validates use a post-processing technique, called “heat source” reconstruction, in case cyclic loading with continuously varying stress amplitudes, offering significant advantages over classical self-heating approaches: considerably reduced test time (some minutes compared few hours); continuous measurement mechanical dissipation versus amplitude; higher maximum amplitude achieved due slower accumulation damage during testing. approach was validated by comparison procedure, and opens new perspectives for characterization.

Sensor-assisted adaptive motor control under continuously varying context

Adaptive motor control under continuously varying context, like the inertia parameters of a manipulated object, is an active research area that lacks a satisfactory solution. Here, we present and compare three novel strategies for learning control under varying context and show how adding tactile sensors may ease this task. The first strategy uses only dynamics information to infer the unknown ...

Stress Intensity Factor Determination in Functionally Graded Materials, Considering Continuously Varying of Material Properties

In this paper, the plates made of functionally graded material (FGM) with and without a crack are numerically simulated, employing the finite element method (FEM). The material property variations are defined to be fully continuous; therefore, the elements can be as small as required. For this purpose, variations of the material properties are applied in both the integration points and in the n...

Strip yield modelling of fatigue crack under variable amplitude loading

The results from ‘strip yield’ approach of the FASTRAN type models of plasticity induced crack closure effects of fatigue cracks subjected to variable amplitude loadings are presented. The strip yield results are compared with authors’ finite element (FE) and experimental results. It has been observed that the strip yield model is seen to be fundamentally limited by choice of α (constraint fact...

Stochastic fatigue damage modeling under variable amplitude loading

A general methodology for stochastic fatigue life prediction under variable amplitude loading is proposed in this paper. The methodology combines a nonlinear fatigue damage accumulation rule and a stochastic S–N curve representation technique to achieve this objective. The nonlinear damage accumulation rule proposed in this paper improves the deficiencies inherent in the linear damage accumulat...

Analyses of Fatigue and Fatigue-crack Growth under Constant- and Variable-amplitude Loading

Studies on the growth of small cracks have led to the observation that fatigue life of many engineering materials is primarily “crack growth” from micro-structural features, such as inclusion particles, voids, slip-bands or from manufacturing defects. This paper reviews the capabilities of a plasticity-induced crack-closure model to predict fatigue lives of metallic materials using “small-crack...
